I was wondering if anyone knew something, If i were to model say, the widows folder icon, if it is possible to turn the .jpg that i would make from it into an icon that i could substitute for the original icon? Thanks.
Sure… possibly! Open any folder, and go Tools->Folder Options. Click the File Types tab and you’ll probably see Folder and File Folder near the top of the scrollbox - not sure of the differentiation between the two, but I found that you could do Advanced->Change Icon with File Folder, but not with Folder. Then choose your icon, and hopefully you’ll discover that your folders are in fact ‘File Folders’ and not ‘Folders’. Give it a go!
Ok, on that subject, could you tell he how to outline something in Blender, if it is possible? I am trying to make a folder Icon and it all looks like one solid thing… not like a folder. in this thing, and i wanted to outline it… i dont know why, lighting might take care of it, but just in case.
Thanks
There’s a button for edge rendering on the output panel of the render bar; I think it’s normally supposed to go along with the toon shaders on materials but it might do what you want all by itself. Never touched it myself :D.
Can you even use jpegs as icons? I thought it had to be an .ico file.
[Edit] Just tried it, jpegs don’t work. Also, instead of doing what indigomonkey said, right click the folder and go to properties. The customize tab should have a change icon button. (Windows XP)
[Edit 2] Use this program to convert your jpegs to .ico. link
[Edit 3] If you haven’t installed it already, you may want to use this one instead that I just found. link This one is only a trial for a $20 program, but I was a little suspicious of the other one mentioning surveys on its installation agreement.
