I'm new to Blender, trying to create a face?

Only just got into it, I know the jist of it, and i’m trying to make a face in edit mode (like a flat shape not an actual face) using ctrl and left clip. I read a guide where you do ctrl and right click instead of connecting the last two dots to select everything and it does it for you.

I’m doing ctrl + right click but it’s not working.

Any help?

With default keyboard configuration, ctrl+lmb extrudes whatever is selected. If nothing is selected, it creates a new vertex.

Ctrl+rmb selects shortest path between active selected element and the selection.
