It might help to model it extremely low poly, then use a subdivision surface modifier. Having less vertices to position makes the modeling process a lot easier. You can also use creases to make sharp edges without having to add extra edge loops.

How do i make it lower poly? i know i can shade flat, but thats the only poly change im aware of at the moment since ive only been using blender for a week
Make a new object with a mirror modifier & turn on face snapping. You can trace your old one in edit mode. Usually, people call this process a method for retopology.
