Please explain to me the reason for the Image verification in the Search option.
Maybe after that it will be less anoying to me.

yes, so annoying, as I usually get them wrong the first two times. But, unfortunately, as hobbes says, an anti-spam requirement these days. It’s so sad that we have been driven to take such defensive postures in what was once a very open and trusting environment. I made the same comment regarding Vista to other members; it is so annoying to confirm everything, but a few years ago, I spent over one full week doing nothing but trying to get rid of the NIMDA virus. One frustrating, expensive week of my life wasted because of some a3$#%@#% that thought it would be cute/fun/whatever to create that bomb…instead of putting his/her talents to good use. So, I don’t terribly mind clicking Confrm a few times each day if it will prevent me from going through that again.
When my wife calls our insurance agency, she has to physically hand me the phone, where I then have to tell the insurance agent my SSN and mother’s maiden name, and authorize her to talk to them, and then give the phone back to her. wow. We consider an alarm system a necessity nowadays…and locking your car, even when running in to get a cup of coffee. Seriously, I’m in starbucks and this lady comes in and says that while she was just inside someone stole her purse off her front seat (luckily she had brought in her wallet with her). It’s almost unreal that there are other people just hanging around looking for those kinds of opportunities to steal and wreak havoc on other people.
If this road rage continues, some day we might all have to upgrade to bullet-proof glass. And if Identity theft continues (heard that here in GA some disk was stolen containing a million names/addr/ssn etc) … i dunno…blood samples and fingerprints when using your credit card? I wonder sometimes what the upper limit on protectionism is…
I’ve NEVER seen a confirmation image/code on the BA search function. I even tried it now and it just works.
My guess - you’re not logged in or your initial log-in is timing-out (you haven’t told the computer to “remember”).
i haven’t ever seen it either…weird.
The quick search at the top of the boards doesn’t require the image verification, but the Advanced Search does.
Edit: Did. Odd, I had seen the image before, but now it doesn’t appear to be present.
Perhaps it occurs at random, or maybe it has been removed entirely.
I did a quick test. You have to be logged in. If you log out then search, you see the code image.
Sometimes, you get logged out without knowing. In fact, I often get automatically logged off if I read/post from work where I haven’t set the “remember me” option. It never happens at home where I checked the “remember me” option and told Firefox to remember this login as well.

yes the image verification on searches is for non registered users and it is a feature of vbulletin not only the blender forums.
I was never aware of the image varification, I guess I should try using it.

It doesn’t.
It prevents use by non-registered users who aren’t real people physically sitting in front of a monitor. If you’re a real person sitting in front of a monitor then it’s not a feature you would actually seek out - but if you’re unregistered or not logged in you’ll have to live with it.
I use “Remember Me” option on every computer that I use to log in to BA… that way I can surf all day long and no verifications or re-logging occurs. Just have to log out after I’m done reading BA on a public computer.
