Immortals VFX

Just found this VFX breakdown of a scene from Immortals. I thought I would share it here because I love the way they broke down the effects. I’m also curious to know since I haven’t done very complex animations yet, how would you cut an object and its armature in half?

The only way that jumps to mind if the armature is still animated, is to duplicate the whole rig & mesh twice (so you have 3 rigs), 2 of them will be the top cut and the bottom cut, the 3rd will be the original… hide the top cut and bottom cut until the frame of the cutting… then unhide them and hide off the original…

To make the cuts, get the mesh and create a booleon difference / intersect on the two base meshs…
