This is the latest render I’ve been working on. No real goal, just adding more as I go on. I call it “Impasse”.
Criticism, please. 
I like the concept. It’s a bit too dim, though.
How are you going to play chess on a board that small?
Maybe you could improve some of the materials because they all look a bit too smooth. And the lighting is a bit boring, so I would advise you to google ‘lighting techniques’ or ‘3 point lighting setup’. DOF is good though.
