Import from 3D Max and keep groups

I tried some export/ import parameters vom 3D Studio Max to Blender.
With *.OBJ files I had no sucess.

The goal is, to keep the groups from 3D Studio Max when export and import it to blender.
Is that posible ?

I’m not able to try it with *.3DS export at the moment but may someone of you has more experiance with it ?

Would be great if anybody knows how to do it !

Just select the group, then export the selected from 3DSMax. Make an OBJ file for each group.

You can also group by material on import I believe, so in Max you could assign certain materials to groups then export as a single OBJ.

Thanks, that was the way I was thinking about as well. I’m searching for an easier way :wink:
