for no apparent reason, i don’t seem to be able to apply a bevel object to any imported svg paths. since blender’s path tools lack several features i’m used to in 2d (like spirals), it’s really important to me to be able to overcome this problem. and i have no clue why it won’t work. when i put the bevel object name (say CurveCircle) into the bevel object field, the curve becomes invisible. if i select it, it still seems to be there, and i can use the ordinary bevel and extrude features on it. i can convert the paths to mesh, apply it as a curve modifier to meshes, and generally use it in the other ways i know to make curves. making it 3D or not 3D doesn’t change anything.
i’m using 2.48. does anyone know if there’s a type or version of SVG file i should make? or a way i can alter the path in Blender to make it take a bevel object?
easy enough, i think. i can post one of the SVGs if you tell me how, but i’ve tested a few of my others and they have the same problem. i tried to add it as an attachment, and the forum software told me it was an invalid file. paying more attention, it only accepts .blend files and bitmap images. is there a way to post the SVG? because i’m having the problem in brand new blender files with nothing else but a lamp and camera in them (see attached). also, if i don’t restart Blender in between importing files, the new import has both the curves of what was imported and the curves of the last thing i imported.
I’d like to tell you that I knew all along what the problem is but…
I just kept pushing the buttons until I found something that:
Worked
Could be repeated
Tab into edit mode, select all, then press w…set radius. The default 1 will be to big. I set it to something lass than .1. To be honest, I have never used this function before, so I couldn’t really comment on why you need it for imported paths. Especiall when you can, in edit mode:
spacebar…add…bezier, and the profile will show up on the added ctrl points.
On the off chance that you are working on molding profiles, you may find the attached file of some use. I have posted it before on the Indigo forums. You may use them without any restrictions whatsoever.
