I’m having trouble finding an imported Digital Elevation Model after importing it into Blender.
Here was the process:
I used MicroDEM to find an area of interest and saved it as .obj file for import. Imported it into Blender just like any other import. However, it was very difficult to find. I had to look for a very tiny, pink rectangular-shaped object (It wasn’t the center of the object data.) With some difficulty, I could find it and zoom in. I tried different size files from a few MB to one about 22 MB. Results were the same each time. Scaling did not affect it.
Is there a better way to do this so that I can find the imported object easily?
When you are having trouble with imported models (ie invisible model but large file size) try the following:
0 check the dos-console for any errors
Turn on all layers with the ~ key, sometimes not all imported stuff are on layer 1.
zoom out/in, in non-perspective top view, until you reach the limit, and see if you can see the object.
attempt to select the object while zoomed out with a box select (b key), go to the object panel and click on NEW CENTER to recenter the pivot for the object. and then press ‘N’ key to show the object panel, then set the X,Y,Z location to 0,0,0.
try to scale the model up/down
go to the OOP schematic view and see if there is really any object in your scene.
