I’m wondering if it’s possible to import existing materials or textures into texture paint? So far I’m not finding such functionality and it’s about to make me pull my hair out over how cumbersome this works.
(I think you meant brushes instead of materials?)
Yep, you can do that by applying your brushes/textures from another file (which serves then as a library).
- First of all you will need to create one (or multiple) file(s), where your brushes/textures will be stored in. Then create your brushes (or use a already existing file and continue reading :)). When saving these file(s) you must klick the “f” at the bottom of each texture/brush slot you want to have, in order to prevent blender from deleting these (unused) textures and brushes (see picture). [The “f” must be dark]
- To add the brushes/textures to a file, go to “File/append”. Browse to your “library-file”, open it and browse in the file to the folder “textures” for textures and “brushes” for brushes (makes sense somehow). If you selected everything you want, klick append. Done.
One small note: the brushes folder also include the already existing standard brushes, so name your brushes descriptive to find them later on.
And another note: if you append brushes, the needed (=linked) textures of the brush will be appended (=imported) automatically.
Hi
Add a Plane - Unwrap it - Go Properties / Materiale tap - Click New - In Surface - Left click all the way to the right in the Color box.
Select - Image Texture - Click the open button…Select the texture/Image You want to paint on.
Go Texture Paint…Texture should now be in Paint slot.

I forgot to mention I’m using Blender Render, not Cycles.
Try this
Add a plane - Give it a materiale - Unwrap it - Add A Texturer from the Texture tap.
In Material Tap find the Shading box - And Tic the Shadelees Box.
Go Texture Paint…Hope this is right…I’m not sharp in Blender Render…

Thanks. I seem to have got it now. However, line strokes seem to give me a headache now. Their size depends on zoom level, and they overlap each other and leave an ugly mark on intersections.
Yea You have to change the size of Brush if You Zoom …
Overlap and intersections is because Your Brush strenght is not set to 1…Change it to 1…

I see! Uhm… as for size, there’s no way of having a constant brush size like in sculpt mode?
Don’t think…But I can be wrong…

I’ll give it a try. Worst case, I’ll just texture in Krita
