importing materials and objects into blender

Hi there,

I have a few questions that I hope someone will be able to answer for me.
I am trying to import materials that I created in a blender file into a new file.
I think I am to use the .DXF file extension to import blender files I am not sure now because it does not work.

I have exported the modeled object as an obj file format. i imported it into the blender file that has all the materials I need to apply to it. problem. because it is an .obj file it has merged all objects into one mesh making it impossible to assign materials to different parts.

I m just trying to save time by using materials that already work.

also the rotate function on any camera I make does not work either…and same with the lamps…They all point downward by default. whats the go with that?. Is there a option to undo that sort of thing…?

it only happns only when I have modeled somthing for a while in a blender file. If I got file>new and try a camera it works fine. argh I actually have a a lot of problems with blender at the moment. here is a weird render view of what I am trying to do. I am trying to get realistic lighting with metalic materials for the gun… argh. I am trying to get this done as soon as possible. I have got no progress in over a week with this.

Are you trying to use materials made in one blend file in another blend file?
If that is the case you need to use Shift+F1 and just append the material http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Manual/Data_System/Linked_Libraries
Without more info I can’t help you with your other problems. Attach a blend file and decscibe precisely what you want to do.
