Importing trajectory data

Hi all,

I am doing research in mobile robotics, and want to use blender for data visualization of 3D trajectories (x,y coordinates over ground and time on the vertical axis).

Previously, I have used blender’s curve tools to manually sketch an illustration:

Now I want to visualize real data in a similar way: the robot’s software provides me with the coordinates and timestamps, for example in a text file or whatever. Now I want to import these data and have them visualized with such an interpolating curve.

Can you tell me how to do import this data into blender? Thanks for any help,
