Importing video's to blender??? (can't figure this out)

Wasnt sure which forum to post this in so Im winging it.

Alright, Im working my way through a tutorial on camera tracking with Blender and voodoo. In the tutorial theres a part where your supposed to load your vid into blender but when I try to open it in blenders video sequence editor it’s not accepted. Im using sony vegas pro to switch the .TOD video to other formats, Ive tried .AVI, .MOV, MPEG, JPEG, etc. I also changed the specifications in blenders scene window to match the camera Im using.
Just for kicks its a JVC Everio GZ HD6. Recorded in full HD mode. I looked at the file properties of a rendered out PNG and it was 1440x1080. Aspect ratio is 16:9. I entered all that info into the format settings in blender along with the frame rate, I kicked the value up to 100% and switched format to Targa.

But yeah blender keeps giving me the error “The selected file is not a movie or FFMPEG-support not compiled in!”

Does anybody know how I can fix this? I appreciate any help thanks a lot.

If a codec is not available on your system then you cannot import a video encoded with that specific codec into Blender for editing or whatever.
What is your OS?
Depending on the answer to your question you need to look for a build with built-in ffmpeg support or alternatively install the missing codec using one of the available codec packs.
