Above is the render of a wooden block on a wooden surface, with a little glossy added.
I would like some help regarding how to improve this render, specifically:
- The texture on the wooden block is tiled too many times on one face.
- I would like to bump map the block, to bring out the texture, but don’t know how.
- Is the lighting good?
The following answer assumes you are using the Cycles render engine, not Blender Internal.
-
For the texture tile size you want to adjust the texture scale. Or if your node tree includes a Mapping node you can adjust it there.
-
Bump routing is done like this:
The Math node when set to Multiply lets you increase or decrease bump depth.
-
The lighting looks a little dark, but first of all what objects are you going to put in your scene? Their shape will determine how you want to “paint” their shapes with light. Watch some tutorials on 3-point lighting. This concept applies to any 3D rendering application as well as photography, so the tutorials don’t have to be Blender-specific. Also I recommend the book Digital Lighting and Rendering.
