In 2.49b you could switch the snap mode while transforimg..

Say u had duplicated a plane and you want to snap it to a vertex , but your snapping mode is set to edge…

in 2.49 you could switch it on the fly while you where dragging that duplicated plane to the desired snapping mode, in 2.6 this is not possible.

you have to accept the transform , switch the mode , grab again, move again and finally snap it where you wanted to …

would be cool to re-implement this…

i think that a multiple snap mode like the selection mode (ie: vertex, edge and face toghether) could be the right solution but i don’t know if is possible to realize…

yeah maybe , but is a work around and is not the way we normally work… :confused:
