In Blender 2.83.5 (the version I have, which is also the most up-to-date one), I can’t see the donut that I’ve made nor the icing and neither is colored, while it’s colored in material preview (in 3D mode). This is probably a noob problem but I asked my STEM teacher and he couldn’t figure it out either.
can you upload the file
so we can try to find what is wrong

My first suggestion would be try Alt+H…
…based on the following assumption:
in your collection manager it shows them both “greyed out” , the icing and the donut. … I assume that you have pressed the H key at some point and made them invisible.
there must be an eye icon in your collection manager besides the greyed out objects, try clicking them until the eye is active again.
that is my two cents…
I can’t upload since I’m a new user-- but I’ve tried what @Hexenfasching said, and it still doesn’t work. I would upload a video/the file but I can’t since I’m a new user.
I’ve tried Alt + H… but it didn’t do anything.
Oh, those two that are greyed out are the original donut, in BlenderGuru’s tutorial we’re supposed to have an original in case something happens during sculpting/rendering.
In that case , we could use the original, duplicate that, and start at the sculpting stage again. However, even if those two are on, and I go into render mode, they’re both gone.
Both the ‘eye’ was and still is active, and so is the ‘camera’. Sorry, is there anything else I could try?
upload to
or any other site
and give us the link
otherwise it is hard to tell what is wrong !

@Hexenfasching, @RickyBlender,@BlenderTimer,
Thanks for all the support thus far.
I have moved up the ranks therefore I can insert files now. Woohoo~
Here is the file. Take a look

Let me know if this works
seem ok to me here is render
what is wrong with it ?

When I go (in 3D Viewport) and hit render (hit ‘Z’ key and a pie menu comes up, select ‘render’) the whole entire donut + icing is gone. However, in BlenderGuru’s tutorial we edit the donut/icing in render mode, although I’m pretty sure I can continue with it . Sculpting/blending donut + icing is Level 1, I’m on the last one so I may be able to just continue, since particles for the sprinkles are different, maybe not in render? I don’t know.
i did have to change the point light to 100 intensity
one is too low
otherwise seems ok to me
may be bring the camera closer to the donut
would make it bigger LOL
i simply use the F12 key to rendre not the pie menu
mind you i got the 2.79 set up for keys not 2.8

This is what happens when i render:
For some reason it’s not showing up in color. (when I upload it here, not in blender render). that’s weird, because it was pink/purple when I rendered it. Anyway, in render mode, my light isn’t there (it’s just gone, there’s no ‘light’ (projecting anywhere) so… I don’t know.
Oh, sorry. Didn’t know you had 2.79 setup. Anyway, in the 2.8 setup there’s render mode where you can edit instead of rendering the image.
you mean in material mode
should not change anything
try this one and render it with F12
note i also had to add up a HDRI map
your file did not include one
this is in material mode
happy bl
huh, it works. When I render the image it works, however when I’m editing in render mode, the donut isn’t there.
Maybe we’re using different versions or I lost a file or something.
I have no idea what HDRI maps are, but thank you for your help.
HDRI are world map
look into the world properties and you will see it
this gives more light on the sky for good reflections on objects in scene
i can see that in render mode most of the objects seems to be almost invisible but they are there
may be some one else can give some feedback on this effect which is strange
but normally you should not edit objects in render use the material mode
happy bl
Thanks for all the help. In BlenderGuru’s tutorial, he’s using render mode to edit, not material mode. So I was worried I had done something wrong. Might start another project to see if anything’s acting weird and/or funky. If all else fails, I’ll open another forum topic to talk about it.
Unfortunately because I have an old computer, and therefore don’t have 2.8+, I can’t open your file. But I would check to make sure you have both viewport visibility buttons enabled(there’s two in 2.8+).
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check around 18 minutes of Blender Guru’s video: Where everything is in Blender 2.8.
Again because I don’t have blender 2.8 or up I don’t know if either hide in rendered mode.
Hope this helps.
