Indecision

It’s been a while since I posted any of my projects on here so I thought I would resurface. This game really has no point so far…It wasn’t even meant to be anything other than some spikes in the floor but for some reason I continued working on the blend. Good chance it’ll just be scrapped but if people like it maybe i’ll continue with the randomness that created it. Oh…Can’t decide on whether or not it will be first person. Usually I hate first person but we’ll see. And yeah, I think I’ll call it Indecision if I continue working on it. Clever, eh? Anyway, screenshot time.

Owch… try using a different texture for the floor and ceilings etc… otherwise, nice work!

you can try to use the vertex painting or the dynamic lighting if you use GLSL

Use some sort of shading, please!

the light is a bit bright… no shadows of any kind.

personally, I like the jar models.

Oh, yeah. Everyone keeps saying shading and texturing. I’ve only worked on this for a couple of hours, so there are many things on the agenda for completing the different parts I have shown. Thank you all for your input but shading was next on my list anyway. Heh. I’ll try to take care of it sometime today if I get the chance…Dual credit English is killing me.

I’ve only worked on this for a couple of hours…

A couple of hours? I think you should wait a little longer than a couple of hours before posting. You could have left it at, “I’m not that good” and people would be more inclined to comment. That’s the failure of most projects is when people post stuff after working only a couple of hours or even just a couple of days. You need to wait before you start a thread (or update the thread) until you can get some lighting, a full level, and at least one character or enemy before you post. If you have several characters, that can generally be all you need.

All I can say besides that is that you need to either make the texture resolutions the same size, or raise the resolution of that brick wall. You also need some AO and a lightmap of some sort. I would also like to see a map of the level so we can get a feel of the layout and critique the placement of objects etc.

I say this with as much respect as I possibly can. It’s good in comparison to your past projects, but you just need to have more material to show us.

Geez guys…I can safely say this is not the least prepared project i’ve seen on here. If you’ll read my description you can see that I only wanted to see what people thought so far and that it probably wouldn’t take off anyway. I guess I’ll just cancel it…I mean I planned on maybe posting some updates later tonight but apparently we have required progress amounts before a submission now.

Yeah guys, cool off a bit :stuck_out_tongue:

It looks good so far.

No relax there, there is nothing wrong with your thinking, it’s just that the brown-yellowish texture makes the images look flat even if they are 3D, adding a single lamp to this scene would have casted some shading, and this would help a lot to see the volumes on the pictures and avoid comments like this one.

By the way me too.

Whoa, man, you don’t need to be giving this project up just because you decided to show it too early. No one here EVER said you should quit. We said that you should work harder.

I’ve told other people that they didn’t have enough to show before, but most of the time they don’t listen and continue like I had never commented. I find it very insulting when they don’t acknowledge what I’ve said simply because they don’t like it. You have already made the first step by acknowledging that you aren’t as prepared as you should be; however, what you should do is slowly keep working on your project until you feel like you truly have something that people can talk about.

Your talented at what you do (your already better than most animators and game makers even while they were in college), you simply need to turn all comments into constructive action. It doesn’t matter how negative the comment may seem, you should read it and follow any instructions given. So, if people say it needs light, than it needs light. If you have questions on how to add light, than you know who you should ask.

No, it’s okay to post early in the project, but you’ll get more-helpful criticism if you post later.
