Infinite light in cycles

Create a sphere. Set its normals to “smooth”. Give it an ordinary diffuse material (in cycles). Create an infinite light.

What’s this junk on the side and how do I kill it? Smoothing works- but does that mean that I have to smooth -anything- that isn’t a flat surface if I don’t want to get ugly artifacts?

Surely I’m not supposed to use anything other than an infinite for direct sunlight?

Huh.

Interesting.

Thanks for the link

You’re welcome.
To get rid of the terminator subdivide high the mesh is likely the only option.
