Infinite Object?

Hi,

I have an object that has an emit material assigned that is meant to stand in for a ray of light. It is a hack I guess. I shoud probably use a volumetric light effect but I don’t know how.

The object turns and the end comes into view during animation. Then it gets cut off abruptly. I have been playing with the new defocus node which is very cool but it still doesn’t do the trick. It is hard to control when the camera moves and I can still see the end of my “light ray”. Does anyone have any ideas how I can go about getting myslf out of this corner?

Thank you,

but I don’t know how.

Add a SpotLight and turn on Halo.

Then it gets cut off abruptly.

Look at the ClipStart/End values of the Camera in F9.

Hi Fligh,

Thanks for answering my question yet again. You are the best.

I will look into the volumetric thing for the next round.

I tried setting the clip values to 1000 - my object is only about 700 units long. Should I try even higher? What do you think might be practical size? I have a Celeron 2.66 with 512 MB RAM. This is a space scene so I had to reduce the amount of Blender generated stars to do that.

BTW. I wasn’t meaning to be critical that DOF is hard to control. It is an amazing new feature and someone is even looking into autofocus!
