I am still a very big noob to Blender and trying a tutorial about adding Textures to materials. In the tutorial they show
an influence panel but I don’t have this panel? I have searched but everything I find seems to have this panel by default?

Can you show us a screenshot of the whole blend er interface and the texture panel
Ensure you are using the Blender Render engine and not the Cycles Render engine, selected from the drop down list at the top of the blender interface
