Inkscape to Blender

I’ve been exploring ways to use Inkscape to help with asset creation for Blender. First off is to create curves in Inkscape to import into Blender as svg and use one as a profile for the other. An example:

I’ve used the Circle tool and the Rectangle tool, both stroke only. The Rectangle tool has controls for rounded corners. Online I’ve seen advice to convert objects to paths but in practice I’ve found it works well without doing that. Save as svg of course. Make the basic shape fairly large (ignore the actual document (the white part).

Import into Blender as curves. For both curves set origin to geometry and move to center with Selected to cursor.

For the circle, in the Curve properties tab, set the rectangle path as the bevel object for the circle. Increase the resolution of the circle (the U parameter) for greater smoothness.

One could of course use much more interesting shapes as the profile object.

The background to this image was created using this technique, with a star enclosed in a rectangle.

Further tips on Inkscape to Blender to come (if there’s interest). Please give a Thumbs Up if interested so I can gauge whether I should do more on this.
