Inset issue please help

Please help me.

I’m trying to inset this face but things is not working as expected. After this inset i wanted to make this a circle. and extrude up.

Its not smooth :frowning:

I’m trying to achieve the number 4 image

Please give me tips… Thanks guys!

I guess a boolean would be the best choice :

i tried boolean before but still get the same result with the faces not smooth because of the connected edges when extruded upward

As you can see from the form of modeling, using boolean seems most appropriate.
If topological modeling is required, only a portion of the boolean modeling can be extracted, cleaned up, and rotated and replicated.

wow. thanks bro. we are close :slight_smile: i thought when you say do boolean it means put a cylinder in the middle and do difference. never thougth of intersect method.

Making this part smooth is the only thing left…

Enable the loop tools addon, it has a tool that normalizes the spacing between vertices in a loop.

Just select those faces in Edit mode, and Face>ShadeSmooth.

You can select them easily, setting the selection mode to ‘Face’, and Shit+Alt+Click over any vertical edge of those faces.

My example was just to show the principle of apossible way to do it… i didn’t want to recreate your exact shape… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

In real life this slope would be done with a lathe machine… so when the inset methode also does make some interesting knob form… you want this equally slanted version.
So you may use a cone like object to “substract” (using boolean) this slope “onto” your object. Like some others now also has shown.

Yet another version (boolean + subd).
