I found the physical address and phone number on an email from back when I was on that beta. This was 2019

Hi Joseph,
Instamaterials.com is not the same as instamat.com. Is It (I am asking as I don’t know but when I ran the "whois on them they were very different domains)? They admitted on their livestream that they are a small team but the program looked pretty tight…and ran exceedingly fast.
Still no download link for me, despite waiting 1 business day…
Anyone had any luck yet?
The download link is on the abstract store page under InstaMat Cloud.
Yeah; it took a while for my account to work, even though I got a notification right away, and I got access to the download a few hours later.
Haven’t installed it yet though.
Ah, that still took me a while to find!
I was expecting an email.
Looks like I’ll be installing soon
Thanks @Son
Yeah there system is confusing AF, I went through this with InstaLOD so it wasn’t new to me.
Edit: Also if you don’t see a email confirmation, try a different email, it doesn’t like my hotmail for some reason.
You ain’t kidding! I was watching the address bar too, because it was swapping domains depending on what you click (as far as I could tell) I actually don’t really know how I ended up on the right page, but wow, shoot that webdev someone, please ![]()
I finally got the email after two days, but I would not have figured out how to download this program without your help. It makes no sense for the download link to be so well hidden. Once that was out of the way, I loaded up one of my models and started painting. It felt smooth, but the navigation will take some getting used to. Baking a 40 million poly sculpt takes a long time. I tried twice, once using the GPU and then using the CPU, and it crashed both times after 10 minutes. For comparison, baking that same model in Substance was very fast. Maybe there are some settings to adjust, but I haven’t really dived deep into anything, just yet. So far, my impressions have been mostly positive, but we’re clearly beta testers
Also, the license seems to be only valid for 1 year
Have you tried importing a high poly mesh directly into the viewport? Substance Painter can only handle around 15-20 million triangles on my machine(i9 24 core/3090ti)
It will be interesting to see what this can handle.
I wouldn’t get my hopes up. After playing some more, I realized that the input lag when making a brush stroke is more comparable with Blender than with SP. It’s not terrible, but jumping between the three programs makes it clear that SP is on a whole other level in terms of texture painting performance.
I’ve tried importing my 40-million model into Instamat, but after a long wait, it just crashed. I typically do textures on models that are closer to 70-100k triangles tops. For me, Instamat could become a viable replacement if they can iron out those teething issues and improve the performance
Thanks. It was just curiosity really. I won’t be leaving Substance Painter any time soon.
Still, it looks to be a viable alternative for anyone not using Substance.
I haven’t tested the layer painting yet, A bit disappointing to hear
, what GPU are you running?
The license is 1 year but you can renew it.
RTX 3060. I wonder if people with stronger GPUs will face any performance issues or if it’s just that my card lacks the power to brute force through the gap in performance and efficiency between Substance Painter and Instamat.
It’s still perfectly workable, just not as performant as I had hoped
I have a RTX 4090, I will test it in IstaMAT later this weekend. I know how my specs run Substance Painter,so I can compare the 2 apps.
I just watched a livestream by the developers of this software. It is a program that puts Substance Painter and Substance Designer. It is mostly node-based and it truly knocked my socks off. It also has Hand-Painting tools with what looks to be a very in-depth set of settings for brush control and brush creation. As a person who struggles with Blender’s current painting tools, this looks to be better than what 3D Coat offers and Substance Painter offers.
The real upside is that it is free to anyone who makes less than $100k/year and only $10/month for anyone making up to $250k/year. It was a three-hour live stream and it was really amazing. I am waiting for their website to start allowing downloads. It is supposed to happen sometime today. They have been working on this for 5 years. Funny because that was when Adobe took over Substance.
It supposedly has a pipeline for Blender.
I am seldom impressed enough to try to call attention to a product, but this seems to be a really polished piece of software. You can check out their YouTube channel to see for yourself. It’s got me pretty excited even though the node system is something I haven’t studied that much. I will definitely begin learning nodes as this program seems unlimited in what you can do with them. And because they kept mentioning Blender I am assuming it will be fully integrated for the two programs to communicate with each other.
Already thread about this InstaMAT - the Substance Designer/Painter alternative we have been waiting for? - #17 by myclay
But yeah it seems cool and I will try it out for sure
Thanks for the link to the other thread on this. I am hoping they will have their website up today for the downloads. Last night they said they were overloaded with requests and asked for patience. I gather it is a small team and they have been working on this for 5 years.
Let’s hope the business model stays fair and that most substance tutorials translate well, they seems to have very similar workflow after all
