I’m not kidding about the price, this is the price you will pay for a special edition i9 KS chip that clocks at 200 Mhz more than the standard one (at under half the price).
In short, Intel has learned nothing about providing value in the wake of AMD becoming the dominant brand in 2019. It is likely that the third-gen threadripper will provide way more multi-threaded performance (ie. rendering) and just slightly less single-threaded performance for roughly the same price. My guess is they are relying on the gaming community to spend big so they can have 2 more frames for bragging rights.
I’m actually looking forward to buying this. The i9 9900KS chip costs almost the same as the 3900x in my country.
I don’t have the “core count fever” since I render on GPU. Blender’s viewport performance is single-threaded and this is the best option at the moment.
Should I change my mind?
