Intel Open Image Denoise - Speed up by 16 times

Hey everyone,

just finished simple tests for myself with the new denoising system in Blender 2.81. Really impressive results.
Glad to share with you.

Thanks for sharing. Last comparison (3072 samples no-denoise vs 128 samples denoise) was the most meaningful for me.

I’m glad it was helpful for you.
Maybe in near future I’ll make some other tests and comprasions.

Mirrors are typically quite flat though - just saying
I love intel denoise. I get acceptable previews for a ridiculous low amount of samples, and usually adequate results at quite low samples, to the point I can render at way bigger resolutions and bring some detail back with correct resize interpolation. There are cases with high energy light sources bouncing around on dark surfaces that can fail absolutely miserably though. And we know it’s not stable for animation.

I just added some noise curvature to the mirror, yes. So I did it just to see how normals would be working with denoise. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the tip - to render with higher resolution for saving details - I’ll try that in future tests.

About animation stability - I can’t fully agree with you. In some cases it works just fine, I’m sure.
