Interior Scene (yes...another one)

This is my second try at an actual interior scene…most of my renders have been of rooms of some sort, but this is the first time I have modelled to real life scale. The scene is a little boring atm, not many things have a texture on them, and everything is still in progress!

To save you the job, here are things im aware of:

  • Sofa too perfect
  • Outdoors doesn’t match up (its a .HDR file)
  • Floor normal map looks weird
  • The window is supposed to slant upwards  (not an error)

Spot anything not on that list, let me know…also the Sofa is a work in progress

p.s. I was inspired by Andrew’s Architecture Academy which looks brilliant, but I cannot afford it :frowning:

it looks really good! i’m just wondering how do you get the light to travel through the windows, i can’t seem to find out how

Here is my node setup for the glass

My understanding is that for light to pass through an object, you need the translucent shader, hence why the glass shader alone doesn’t work!

aaah right! thanks

Update time…added a material to the sofa, and made it less solid looking…also added a coffee table  gonna make the legs a little thinner though, they are too thick atm

Your title made me smile

Its been a while since I’ve seen you working on something, looking good so far. Is it all modelled by you?

Good luck with it.

yeah ive modelled all of it except the window…used the window add on  Yeah ive been floating around the forums still, but not modelled anything for a bit  Seeing all the architecture stuff from Andrew made me get back into it!

edit…actually, I grabbed the books from Andrew’s free Architecture pack

Hey, don’t feel bad about making ‘yet another’ indoor scene, bring 'em on so we can get ideas and learn :). This is coming along nice, indoor is difficult to light. And now I know there is a window addon :). The floor looks nice, it looks just like the one I was playing with yesterday to learn to add a normal map to a texture. A little thing that many people overlook, add in the crown moulding.

Update time…added some pillows, also replaced the coffee table with a foot stool type thing…

Things to do:

  • curtains and rail
  • lamp in corner
  • replace wall boxes with canvas
  • rug (i have one made, but it kills render times!!)
  • add texture to table thing on left hand side

loads of other things aswell, but that should keep me occupied for now

Great work so far. looks good. I believe the hdr and the sun lamp is the only source of light here?? Even I’m working on and arch project using blender for the first time. If u have worked on a couple of them can you help me in some little things?

yep HDR and sun lamp only light source. if I can help ill give it a try…you have a thread open on here? always worth opening one up!

Ain’t nobody got time for Andrew Price.

Btw, if this is Cycles, how’d the noise disappear? There has to be a substantial amount of noise.

I’m a newbie to Archviz but for interiors I’d go for Yafaray.

Just my cup of tea -

Swaschan

lol yeah this is only 500 samples…I turned of caustics and changed another setting which I cannot remember

Your renders are coming to look quite nice. However, I am inclined to notice two things: first, the displacement of the floor should be the opposite way. Second, the HDR/Background looks kinda strange. It just doesn’t blend with the room. The cause may be brightness inconsistency between the houses/trees and the objects in your room. The features in the background look as if under sullen, sunless weather, whilst the interior is brightly lit.

In which way opposite with the floor displacement? Yeah I know about the HDR not matching propperly, luckily in the final scene, not much of it will actually be visable as i plan to model the garden aswell, with fences etc…

The seams between the planks should be crevices, not ridges.

yeah im pretty sure they are going down not up…ill make sure

Why don’t you model the floorboards? #trippy.

yeah i thought about it, but unless I use some sort of UV projection, texturing it would be a pain!

Here is a small update…I wanted to have a cloth draped over the foot stool, but it either slid off and hit the floor, or when I pinned it, it would fly up in the air and go al weird…any ideas?

its been a while…here is an update!

There is no curtain rail…I know…
