Internet Worm - Three's Company (My first Blender WIP)

To all-

Now, there’s a lot of things I can draw on and add to this model, however I am rather pleased with it as it is my first real Blender work.

I was inspired by all the Internet worms (Sobig, Swen, etc), and decided to put together my vision on what an Internet worm looks like.

I like to think of this as a network admin’s nightmare.

Well I’d love some good crits, I’m really trying to understand lighting and texturing. So this model sorely lacks in those areas.

Ahh well, enough waiting, here it is.

Take care.

Great, looks really cool. I don’t hink real virusses will look like them, but in your fantasy they can be the same. Nice render.

Really? You think?

Thanks! I really appreciate it. It was a labor of love a few hours every evening for a month.

OSA! it makes for much better renders! other than that, the only thing I would do is maybe adjust some of the ligting colors to give it a mood, and click “set smooth” on the wires! it looks good, keep up the good work!
:stuck_out_tongue:

OSA?

I’m sorry I’m rather lost on that one.

Good Idea on the mood lighting… perhaps red or green?

Setting smooth as we speak…

Put some anti-aliasing on your render - F10 for the rendering options, then set the OSA button on and specify an amount (the value buttons below the OSA button)

Those look pretty kewl thumbs up

Alright, I’ve adjusted the image for OSA.

See above.

Looks much better, that’s definitly one to add to the toolbox…

Not turning on the OSA is THE most common of Blender mistakes. There has been talk of setting it on as a default, and also putting a default lamp in the scene, since the other most common mistake is not adding a lamp.

Thanks, I think that would be a good idea.

I’m not a fan of the default plane, but having OSA on by default is nice.

h

You can set user prefs with ctrl U. so if you want OSA on, but no plane, just turn on the OSA and delete the plane, and then press ctrl U.

Yeah, that looks much better hazmat. By the way, great picture :stuck_out_tongue: I forgot to say before… I really like the menacing look you managed to give them

Thanks, I’ve gotten some good feedback on this “1st work” I appreciate all the kind words, and thanks again for the OSA tip! That’s a big one.

The menacing look was made with a lattice, I’m a very big fan of the lattice, kind of reminds me of silly putty

mommy! where’s norton antivirus when you need it!!!
Nice work

I couldn’t help but notice “three’s company.” This isn’t dedicated to the late great john ritter is it?

You did a good job making the contacts on the cat5 connector look like teeth. I had some difficulty making meshes look right when distorted with lattices…Maybe I just didn’t it right  Either way, I think it looks cool and you had a clever idea here. I know your lighting was going for dramatic effect but perhaps it could be tweaked a little to make the profiles of the connectors less confusing. Keep it up.

You know, I can’t take credit, I thought of that after I posted it. I was thinking more of the three worms that came in sequence…

The lattice was real fun, it was easy to work with, I just applied one lattice to the top of the connector and another to the other.

They’re just so easy to use, and fun too!

Feed me Semore :x Reminds me of Little Shop of Horrors. Picture is really great, can’t wait for the movie - “When Virus Attack” yeah!

To make it more menacing maybe put more black wires and circut boards in the background. I do like the spotlite effect, as if some sysadmin openend a cupboard and found this mess inside.

Thanks, I guess it does have a little shop of horrors look to it. Good spot!

That’s what I was going for with the spot lite effect, sort of a…

“whoops, don’t open that wiring closet.”

-h

I’ve taken a second stab at it based on some prior comments, now it looks more like a wiring closet gone bad.

Very Nice. Small touch - add some text to the texture on the cable - some serial number stuff perhaps. My network cable has black ink dots with rubbish written on it. Something like EUX B23233 Max 75 C . Maybe you could write something subtle on them for the observant, “Sobig.WORM” or something like that.

Maybe one of them should be baring its ‘fangs’ at you in a threatening way? And if you could add a cobb web or two…
