After using blender for quite some time now, I felt that it was time for me to give something back to the blender community in some sort of way. I have recently started up a small computer business (JYS Computers), and with it I have a full scale webserver that I use for business purposes.
I have come to realize that not everyone has the money to own a website to post their works of art on, and so they get free websites from such places as Geocities – Who doesnt allow hotlinking, limits bandwidith, and puts ads on the websites.
And so, intruducing… SBUP (Starving Blender Users Project)! By May 25th, I hope to have a subdomain on my server setup for those who are in need of a website to have one! Hotlinking will be allowed… no limit on bandwidth or space… and no ads!
I do have a few rules though…
What SBUP is for
Hosting blender related material. This can be finished projects, WIPs, animations, tutorals, and other blender-related websites.
Wings, and external renders such as YAFRAY and pov-ray related materials are allowed – As long as it relates back to blender in some sort of way.
What SBUP is NOT for
Hosting personal webpages
Hosting 2D art, or any graphics arts not related to blender
Hosting Mp3s, warez, porn, etc… I will destroy the website if i find this.
That’s about it. The only other thing that I ask is if you plan on uploading a 200+ meg animation, please let me know before doing so.

Although I already have webspace of my own, I would like to say that I think this is a very nice and generous thing that you are doing, Crazymopho. I’m sure that this will allow many more people to show their blender artwork, and that is always a good thing.
The password that you wish to use for FTP login. Pick one that is 4-9 characters in size. Please do not share your password with anyone – If you plan on creating a website that is dedicated to a group project, then I will be happy to assign seperate usernames/passwords for each person in that project.

Your current nick name in elYsiun/blender.org (if you have one).
Just a general idea of what you plan on using your SBUP account for.
After I recieve your email I will setup your FTP account, and send back to you all the information that you need to get started.
This isn’t the greatest server in the world, although it seems to be holding fairly well so far. So hopefully this will all workout just fine.
ok for now, I don,t need one, I got one on ahostmaster.com…but i will close it at the end of the month. Then I’ll move The Exodus website to my battletechmodproductions account. The prob is, that when we’ll finish the first part of the movie we’Ll need to post it in different version because some of you want high res and some other (with 56k modem) want low res size and my battletechmodproductions account is not enough big to have it on.
So I was asking myself if, when we’ll finish the movie, you could host all the different version.
-It is made in blender
-the smallest would be around 25-30mb with good compression
-medium about 50mb and the biggest could be around 100mb (maybe more)… I didn,t wanted to email you, cause I don’t actually need the space… I just wanted to know if it wasn’t too big for an account :S

I was already planning on doing that as soon as I figure out how I wanna organize the main page and stuff – My primary goal was to get it up and running, and giving out the webspace ASAP.
I was considering perhaps a “Hall of Fame” gallery… Any other ideas of what else could go onto SBUP?
I was even considering running a contest to create the best “SBUP” logo. The one that is already on the main page is fine for now i suppose, but it was rushed because like i said, i wanted to get the thing up and running asap.

Well I have a website thats all contained in a single SWF file, and it has moslty blender composite stuff, but it also features my work in fruityloops, and it is of course a flash file so it features flash as well. Is that okay??
