Inverse Kinematics always at 90 degrees wrong angle

Hi,
I have followed maybe 8 different tutorials on very simple rigging and inverse kinematics, and every time except one, I get the same slightly incorrect result, I have used many different models and just once, it worked with a downloaded mesh. I hope the blend file explains this better, but it is a super simple low-poly humanoid, with an equally simple rig. I apply the IK as instructed everywhere on the internet, and I end up with the knee/elbow pulling to the wrong place. in the knees case they bend inwards toward the body midline, but elbows bend downwards. Here is the blend file: https://pasteall.org/blend/1f9e2caef9d24ad7b5c2ebec607c178a

I have attached a picture too, hopefully you can see the issue.

Thanks very much for any help

Change the pole angle on the IK constraint, or don’t use a pole (they’re optional.) 62 degrees looks about right for your leg as built.

For your arm, you want the bones to describe the angle in which your arm bends. Currently, the way it’s built suggests a backwards bend, because the forearm bends backwards from the model instead of forwards (which would be typical for a realistic model, although your model doesn’t really show any elbow definition.)
