Newish to Blender, but not CGI, Is was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a scene in which I need a plane with a shadeless material to be visible in the scene’s reflections, but not not visible in the renders, very much in the same way you can turn off the Primary visibility in Maya and still have an object visible to the reflective materials.
If anyone could explain to me how I do this, that would be amazing.
Or, if you want an object to show in the render, but not on the 3D view (so it doesn’t keep getting in the way), turn off the visibility of the object in the outliner but have the render on.
Actually, it’s neither, really. I don’t want to create an HDRI render. I have metallic metaballs reflecting an envmap mapped to the sky - which I can stop from rendering - and a white poly which adds a nice bright white reflection to the metaballs forming into the logo, which I want to be invisible during the rendering but still casting a reflection on the metaballs.
Any other ideas, because the last one solved another puzzle for me
You could use renderlayers.
Place the object to hide in a different layer and create an extra renderlayer.
Make both layers active in your scene.
And exclude the hidden objects layer from your main renderlayer.
