Invisible walls still render?

Hi all / First 2 weeks on Blender and I’m having great success but I have a question about building a room set. I created a room with blocked in furniture and a character but I kept each wall as a separate item in the scene assuming I could toggle off a wall to get render views from any angle. Strangely (?) the wall even when toggled off was still rendering blocking my view into the room. When I delete the fourth wall completely it’s fine .
Of course I would like to have all four walls and a removeable roof. Is it just a matter of how I group things in the collections ?

It depends on how you toggle off.

In the outliner
The screen Icon will hide the object in viewport (but it will still render)
The camera Icon will hide the object in render.

Here the cone will not be visible in viewport but it will show in render.
The cube will not be visible in both viewport and render.
The cylinder will be visible in viewport but not render.

Another method to see through walls is to use the Camera clipping settings. (clip start)

Welcome to one of the most annoying features in Blender, that make absolutely no sense coming from -any- other 3D application. LOL!!

I did not mention that the Eye Icon has a similar functionality as the screen Icon, the difference is that the eye icon hides the object in the “active view layer”, the screen icon hides it in all view-layers.

That bit can be confusing but if you only have one view layer either do the same thing.
