Iron Man Rig Problem

Hi guys, this is my first post here in the forum
I have a question : I am not very good at rigging, so I followed this rigging tutorial from the blender guru website(www.vimeo.com/30078317#at=0). Here is the problem: The IK Bone/rig is always “pushing” in the wrong direction since the head of bone 1 is too far right /since the head of bone 1 has to be more left than the head of bone 2, but if I move the bone more to the left, the rotation axis of the mesh is wrong so the whole model rotates at the wrong point .(–>look at this picture to see the problem: www.dropbox.com/s/8yt0lwtqgbulmie/Blender%20Forum.png)Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance for you answers

Moved from “General Forums > Blender and CG Discussions” to “Support > Animation and Rigging”

Trick from the Humane Rigging DVD: Temporarily turn off the IK Constraint with the eyeball icon on the constraint panel (Pose mode). Rotate the lower leg a bit. Right click in its rotation panel and select Add Driver (you’re not really going to drive it. This just locks that rotation so it can’t be undone without deleting that driver setting). Turn the IK Constraint back on. Leg should bend correctly for you now.

There’s another way to bend hint. In the Rigify rig it is done with a rotation constraint somehow.

Thanks for answering so fast
I tried out what you recommended, but there is a gap in the "knee shield“part. :frowning:
I will try to rig without the IK constraint. Maybe Ik constraints are better for organic characters and not that useful for mechanical rigging.
But thanks for you answer
