Is displacement broken in V3? Displacement node just raises whole surface

See attached image… plane was on the ground but when I connected up the noise, it just rose the WHOLE surface up by the same amount.

The displacement node in the material editor is a render time effect. If you want to displace the geometry use the displacement modifier.

But the problem there is that I want to create the pattern for it in the “shaders” editor, as you can use a lot more advanced effects and nodes to create more interesting patterns.

The displacement modifier will only use textures, so the options are a lot more limited.

First…plug your Noise in the Height not the Normal…
Make sure to have enough geometry…
Manual subdivision of the mesh as well as a Subdivision Modifier, select Experimental if you want to use the Adaptive subdivision…
Make sure to turn on Displacement in the settings tab of the Material, change from Bump to one with displacement…
It will only show in Render View…and in Cycles
