So I’ve been working on a story for about a decade right now and I feel that the perfect way to bring it too life would be in 3d through sculpting and eventually animation. But I have been afraid to start blender because it’s a whole new territory for me. I’ve always drawn. Mainly just faces and what I like to call Cadaver pose which is flat and non dynamic pose, Like they are dead on a table. So I’m thinking am I putting effort into the wrong thing trying to get a grasp on drawing the characters if I want to sculpt them in the end. I have a mental idea of how I want them to look But I dont want to keep putting things on hold. When I tried to look for an answer to this I couldn’t find anything. I’m hoping I can get an answer and take a step closer to fully joining the blender community.
I’ve been searching for an answer on every social media account I have but I have found no feedback please help.
You don’t necessarily need to be good at drawing to be good at sculpting. My drawings of humans suck but I can sculpt humans just fine.
Just dive in. Drawing gives you a head start on design and anatomy. Sculpting and getting an understanding of the form in 3d will also improve your drawing!
So don’t delay, start that shit right now. Don’t even reply to this topic without a pic of a work in progress, you shoulda started immediately.
Both to draw and to sculpt it is necessary to have a good ‘mental vision’ of what one wants to represent, some better manage to educate their hand in drawing, others in sculpting or modeling; and not only: each has his own personal abilities that distinguish him, for example some are good at portraits and caricatures, while others, even better at drawing in general, do not do as well.
Drawing “cadaver” poses is a symptom of a poor ability to visualize the anatomical parts in perspective, but in 3d world this changes totally, so all you have to do is try.
However, you don’t have to think that getting to the degree of skill to make a whole 3D story is easy or fast, this requires great effort and assiduity for a long time.
In an ideal world you do need to be sharp in both areas, but it is not necessary to have traditional skills to be able to model or animate in a 3d application. Having extra drawing and art skills is always good. Also this is a case by case situation really, it depends on the person’s ability to understand structure and form.

Exactly. Expect to suck! Work through it!
You all are amazing! I cant describe how much this helped me. Cant wait to jump in. Appreciate all the feedback
