After nearly three years getting to the point of creating models worthy of selling I decided to look into selling on Sketchfab and visited their forum which is now Read only.
Looking into why it’s now Read only I visited FAB https://www.fab.com
I then found this content about the next phase for Sketchfab. Announcing Fab, the Next Phase for Sketchfab - Sketchfab Community Blog
As a newbie getting ready to sell models I’m interested in what those already doing so think about the upcoming changes.
They say that they’re looking to inspire creators to help build the Metaverse and that they’ll be joined by ArtStation Marketplace, Unreal Engine Marketplace, Quixel.
Geez, that was a read, but as of now I don’t know what to make of it. Too many questions to digest. But at the moment I’m left wondering if it’s going to be good for someone like me, a simple modeller simply looking to make models and sell them.
I suppose as a newbie to the scene Sketchfab feels like a comfortable place to sell, where as Fab seems like it could be an ocean to get lost in. But of course the many concerns may be addressed and it’ll be fine.
Luckily I’m not quite ready yet, so in the meantime I can watch at my leisure to what happens.
though all the same half-your-luck ATM it’s freezing mid winter here and with cash I’m now chucking at the heater, could very well be perched under a beach side cabana, sipping umbrella drinks up north on the Gold Coast : p
Are there any interesting updates you could share?
Also interested how you see it progressing and how different it will be to sketchfab.
My main interest will be selling models but it looks like it will have a lot to offer.
I have a humongous collection of sketchfab bookmarks collected over many years. I just hope that there will a sketchfab-dot-com service for a while, just to redirect the links to the new website.
