Is it possible to edit a mesh after applying armature?

I am trying to setup my first rig for a hand I modelled. After applying the bones to the mesh, I noticed the mesh doesn’t deform as I expected.

I don’t want to redo all the bones to fix the problem so I was wondering if there´s a temporary disable function for the armature?


You can click the eye icon in the modifier to disable it in the viewport or the one next to it to the right to just disable it in edit mode.

There is no longer an eye modifier in 2.90+ Capture
and I am able to edit the mesh by disabling the Shape Keys, but it snaps back to original position upon re-enabling or exit edit mode.
