Is there a minimum size for rigid bodies to collide properly?

I have a plane set as a static and a small coin model. The plane is 24m x 24m and the coin is 3cm x 3cm x 5mm. At this size, the coin phases through the plane as if it weren’t there. If I scale it up considerably it starts colliding properly. The bounding box for the coin is convex hull with a 5mm margin. If I start GE with coin close to the floor, the collision works, but if I set it very high at all, it does not.

What am I missing folks?
