Is there a multires LOD python script?

Hi,

I’m running through “the essential Blender guide” on multires sculpting meshes. I know there is, at least in game development something like LOD (Level Of Detail) meshes, which means that when an object is far away the camera the low resolution mesh is rendered instead of the high res mesh.

Is there a python script that links the level of the mutires mesh to the renderer and the camera distance?
So the low res mesh would be used when farter away from the camera and the high res mesh would be used when closer to the camera. COULD SOMEONE PLEEEEEEEEEEASE WRITE A SCRIPT FOR THIS IF IT DOESN’T EXISTS YET? I’m think it’s very usefull for rendering forests and landscapes and it would be cool if you could export this in a file format for game development. For instance in the Quake 3 MD3 file format.

This is the closest that I know exists right now: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=119216&highlight=LOD

looks promising

Good find on that python script. Nice to see one implemented.
