Is there a way for released fluids to react with a normal map on a simple plane?

Appologies if this was asked already as I’m kinda in a hurry. I usually go through searching for previous similar issues, but I couldn’t find this one quickly.

Basically I have a plane that has a UV’d normal map with bumps and cavities. I’ve set it at an angle so the fluid slides down, however, the fluid doesn’t react with the normal map. It seems to react only with vertex/edges where the plane has been subdivided.
