Is there a way to loft/skin meshes or curves with different number of vertices?

Hi everybody,
I am new in blender and I would like to use it to create smooth terrains. The easiest for me is to start with doublecad where I draw my flatten topolines, all of them have different number of vertices. I can then, import the file in blender as .DFX, I have choice to turn my polylines into meshes or Nurbs curves. Then I move them at the good altitude, but I can’t find a way to loft them because first they don’t have the same number of vertices and second they are not surface Nurbs Curves…
Do you have a clue?

skinning/lofting incompatible curves is currently not possible in Blender.
The only open source modelling application that implements skinning
completely is Ayam (http://www.ayam3d.org/).
You can import your DXF curves into Ayam, create a Skin, tesselate
the resulting NURBS surface and write the PolyMesh out to e.g. a
Wavefront OBJ file for further processing in Blender.

If you know sketchup, you could use it’s terrain tools (Turn on “Sandbox” in the View->Toolbars Menu). You could then export it to Blender by renaming the KMZ file as ZIP, and importing the DAE file via the Collada 1.4 importer. Not as complicated as I’ve, perhaps, made it sound :wink:
Also (I’m not sure you could try this anyway):
Ctl-J to join the meshes
In Edit mode, select two “contours” at a time. Press Shift-F to “fill” it, then Alf-F to “beauty” it.

Edit: Actually I prefer to do my basic modelling in Sketchup; then import and clean-up and Alt-J like mad

Now with Blender 2.49b you can.

Select the two curves and click CTRL+J to join them. Then press tab to go in edit mode. Please A key to select all vertices and then press F key. In the context menu the last option is skinning
