I am just wondering. Is there a way to move a bones position in pose mode. by selecting the center of 2 bones?
I guess what I mean is. I want to be able to select lets say… Knee bone. The knee bone will be between the Upper Leg and the lower leg. I want to be able to select that knee bone and then my two bones points that are connected to my bone would follow it’s position.
It’s Sort of like an IK behavior I guess. I remember “pulling” this off before but I cant seem to it now…
Is there anyway that this can work? Is the effect i’m trying to achieve a forward kinematic thing?
I remember doing it with my IK constraint before but I just cant seem to do it again.
Bottom line, all i’m asking for is a way for that mid point(The point between the Upper Leg and the Lower Leg)To be controlled and move freely.
I’d appreciate anyones help who can give a few “pointers”.
Do you want to rotate the thigh bone and have the lower leg bone move with it?
In which case you simply parent the lower leg bone to the thigh bone (In Edit Mode for the armature) with “Inherit Rotation” checked. You can then move the lower leg independently of the thigh, but movement of the thigh will also move the lower leg.
If this is not what you are saying - please explain it better with a picture. What I have described is FK on a Rigify rig for example and is how any simple rig would work, provided you checked “Inherit Rotation” on the bone parent (found in the Bone panel, not the armature or object panels of the armature) see picture below:
Extrude the control bone from the knee, then press Alt-P > Clear Parent. Now select the lower leg bone and then the control bone and Ctrl-P > Keep Offset. That should work.
