Is there any way to convert vertex paint into an image?

I need to do this because what I’m entering this in doesn’t use .blend files, so I need to have an image to wrap it with.

For Blender 2.49, to convert the blender vertex paint to a texture:
UV unwrap your object
In the Material panel select VcolPaint button
In edit mode select all vertices, create a new image in the UV image editor
In the Render ? Bake settings, select Texture and press Bake. This bakes the vertex paint info to the UV texture.
vertex paint bake.blend (178 KB)

I’m a real noob at this, how do I open up the uv image editor?
Never mind this.

Now it says “no images to bake to.”
What am I doing wrong?

In a UV/Image editor wndow use Image / New.
See the example blend in my previous post
