Is this a low amount amount of triangles my rig can handle?

Hi guys

Was quite disappointed blender being unusable at around 1 million triangles in edit mode and ~10 million in sculpt mode and am wondering if maybe something is going wrong. From older posts I’ve read online it seems quite low for a relatively new computer.

How much should I be expecting do ye think?

Blender 64 bit on Windows 64 bit
RAM: 32 gb
CPU: intel core i7-2600 @ 3.4Ghz
GFX: Nvidia GTX 750 Ti 2GB

Any insights would be much appreciated!
