The actors are real person, but the whole environment is 3D. I’m going to try Blender and After Effect.
Of course it’s possible, especially with a properly set up green-screen or similar. In fact it’s easy to place live actors in a fantastical, unrealistic 3d environment. Creating a convincing, realistic environment (eg Avatar), not so easy.
