Island Bug Racing

This work in progress is a racing game using the vw bug. it is not in a fully functional state but is getting closer to completion.

Current features:
-Highly accurate VW bug model slightly optimized for the BGE (original model can by found on the authors site http://www.katorlegaz.com/3d_models/ )
-multiple car colors
-working vehicle suspension, drive train(forward reverse), brakes(normal and handbrake), and steering. scripts and tutorials used can be found here: http://www.tutorialsforblender3d.com/
-dynamic headlights

Features in development:
-GTA SA style cameras
-LOD for the huge map
-more object concepts(home garage, container ship, ect.)

Future Features:
-car AI for races
-waterfall and other scenery
-customizable car
-tire tracks
-car damage gta style

With the exception of tire tracks and car damage, I have investigated and brainstormed how to implement all these features. More features may be added soon.

do not expect this thread to be updated frequently as I will soon have little time to work on it.

If the map is one big mesh (as it looks like on the screenshot) how will you change the LOD ?

the map is one piece now to facilitate sculpting but I will separate it later for LOD

do you have any reference you are working from for the LOD, or previous experience?

I will be using reference, but I cannot find it right now. I have just started back up with this project.
