Issues with 2.26/2.28

I haven’t done much with Blender the past few months, but I after firing it up again (2.2eight), I was disappointed to find that at least one of the files that was created using an earlier version of Blender (probably 2.23), would only render the first layer :(. Oddly, the same thing happens in 2.26. According to the active layers, there should be 10 layers being rendered. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to fix this?

Second, is there a way to change the color of the cursor? (not the 3D cursor, but the one that follows the mouse on the screen?) I find that its current color and size make it very difficult to discern it from anything else - especially since Blender’s native background color in the 3D modeling window is gray. Complex models with high vertex counts make it even more difficult.

Third, I’ve recently acquired a new system which includes an Athlon XP 2600+ processor and an NVidia GeForce 4 TI-4200 video card. The nvidia drivers from the card manufacturer (MSI) have been installed, ironically, because they provide better performance than NVidia’s newer drivers (which are only a version or two ahead). Just the same, I’m not getting nearly the performance increase I was thinking I should, particularly when rotating scenes in alt-z (shaded) mode. Running the GL gears demo that comes with Mesa, it’s obvious that XFree86 is using the accelerated video, because I’m pulling about 3701 FPS. Can someone point me to an accurate test I can conduct within Blender that would remove any doubt as to whether or not it was using the video acceleration? I’m running this on a linux box with RH9 installed.

I can hekp you on the first question.
Go to the camera view, select all layers that you want rendered and select the little padlock icon to the right of the layer button to lock the view. Make sure your cursor is in the view window when you render. This issue confused me at first as well when moving to versions newer than 2.23.
