It just doesn't look right

I modeled a head in blender 2.5 and had my first go at shading and texturing the thing (much thanks to Ben Simonds and his blender cookie tutorial). However, in my final render the shadows appear much too hard to me and if you look closely there are lines on the skin that look like it was not shaded smooth. It looks like you can still see the faces of the mesh or something. I am using a three light setup with a light off to the left of the head, one behind the head, and another in front of and to the right of the head. Can anyone help me tweek it to get it just right?

Much appreciated

might you have enabled toon shading? that would explain the contrasting shadow.
(edit) btw, if you are having trouble with the eyelids, try using the retopo tool. very handy that tool.

I didn’t use toon shading. I used Oren-Nayer. But yes haha I was having trouble with the eyelids and lips. Thats a great idea with the retopo tool. thanks

I think it looks nice. The background is very post-modern.
Maybe tweak the Ambient light level a little and see what you think. Just something I discovered, made an easy, yet big difference for me.
Then you could play with AO a little and see what you can get out of that.
Good start, though.
I’d lower the dome of the kid’s forehead, or move her eyes up a little. That’s just me though, infants always look weird to me…
