In case nobody replies to your post, just think of this…
You are lucky…
…because i replied before you could post a:
Nobody ???
half an our later…
Thanks. You saved me from eternal embarrassment!
You are welcome.
Actually… sometimes people just do give too less information like:
I have a problem, please help.
…and this is almost all ( except the even longer explanation and apology to be new in the forum and maye that’s not the right place to post…
But nothing about:
OS and version , Blender version (!!), renderer (eevee, cycles), Render Device: {CUDA, OptiX HIP, oneAPI, none} , amount of system RAM, graphics card typ (producer, model name, different amount of VRAM), driver typ and version, extra overlay dandy blinky something apps… or what else is running on the system (because it works… like a browser with a hundred open tabs. )
Even proper powersupply has some influence, the humity and temperature in you room, the space between your computer and the rest (proper ventilation)… have some influence…
An of course millions of polygons used because of some dowloaded free scan or photometric data (and using a supdivide modifier on top on that …)
Showing no image or only the result, no further options (or the wrong one), too big image (3000x2000), using a photo (! even bigger image and blurry) of the screen and not using the blender → Window → Save Screenshot feature, no blend file or extra compressed and not using blenders compress feature, if blend file then not “focused” on problem areas, posting the backupfile *.blend1
with not using the latest changes…
[ puuuhhh taking a deep breath… “This was relaxing…” ]
Someone thing i’m exagerate… but have seen all of this…
Sorry for using this as my relaxation exercise.
But may it even help people to increase the probiltity to be heard and in particular been understood so someone can try to make a proper response.
Good points! Recognizable.
So true!
I don’t know if it’s a generational factor, or if it’s just dued to a bigger user base; but I don’t recall to see so many malformed posts and questions since the Elysium times…
There was once a pinned post from FWeeb clarifying how to best post a support request… A very good one, btw. IMO, all new users should be forced to read that post, before posting anything in the support area.
… And now for something completly different:
Totally off topic
Read this before. I’m still searching for this…
I’ve noticed that whenever I share video where I showcase something new and cool in big sculpt thread, like new add-on features, or new built-in tools like last time, thread dies for a while, no one has anything to say those, and reignites once more when somebody starts complaining.
My approach to this particular forum is that less replies you get better job you’re doing, because this environment was moulded for (and probably by) whiners and complainers.
… he (the pot) complained about complainers (the kettle)
Well, forums are dedicated for communication so if communication isn’t happening the purpose is not being fulfilled, is it?.. In my view, if you post something in a forum, you should have a goal of getting responses. Why post otherwise?
I think a lot of problems are in the way of communication. If someone posts an image or a video without context or writes a generic statement that means nothing, then sure, what’s the reason to engage? If you don’t want replies, I guess that’s fine. If you want communication, communicate. I see so many posts where it’s totally unclear what the purpose of the post is… I think if people explain that purpose, they get replies. You want to just share your work? That doesn’t require response, maybe a few likes or whatever. You want to hear what people think about it? Well just ask. You want to get feedback? Well talk about it - explain what aspects you are not sure about, what you like or are proud of yourself. You want to ask a question? Ask it in a way other people understand the problem. Majority of people online seem not to be good at communication at all. See the questions of newbies on these forums or on Stack Exchange… There seems to be an epidemic of not being able to use language to communicate. I think that often has something to do with not getting responses.
One of the things Discourse aimed to do is make traditional forums feel more like general social media and chat, so people who hear good news are compelled to smash the like button instead of leaving anything of value in response.
The current design also amplifies heated discussions because of the realtime updates and the complete lack of pages (which in turn drives addiction). At least when BA had pages you were required to make a decision on whether to continue in the thread before reading what comes next. The current design of this forum is more about being ‘trendy’ than being practical, and the web itself has been trending away from bringing out productivity in favor of bringing out the worst in people to drive clicks.
It is not like the addiction-focused design of the modern web came out of the blue. Casino resorts in places like Vegas have been researching the psychology of addition for decades and is why you see design decisions like no 90-degree angles.
Are you confusing discourse with discord ??
Discourse do not use the very old tree like “presentation” of threads but every single post shows where it was replied (and you can easily jump to that).
Also it does have threads and discord “introduced” then only some month ago… (well properly now already over a year). And discussions on discord are a wild blinky piep tut… i have disabled every sound of it…
The “counting” for every single emoji also is a discord “feature”; discourse does only count likes (hearts).
Are you trying to tell us you posted something you worked really hard on and nobody said anything?
I’ll search it out and comment…
Haha, no. I honestly don’t mind if I get no replies, but I mostly post renderings here, so the likes are rewarding enough.
I agree with @Ace_Dragon that there’s too much emphasis on methods to keep users engaged. That’s why I really like Mastodon. There’s no algorithmic manipulation there, contrary to commercial platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, “Xwitter”, etcetera. Mastodon feels more like social media in the early days. And so do the other Fediverse platforms, such as Pixelfed, an Instagram alternative.
That explains so much why the most-prominent discussion in the General Forums here is about the freakin’ conflict between Israel and Palestine–on a website focused on the open source 3D software, Blender. Or why I haven’t heard much about passable movies showing in theaters right now, such as Inside Out 2 or Deadpool vs. Wolverine, online (only through word of mouth from my real-world friends), yet my YouTube recommendations are constantly flooded with weirdos complaining about the Borderlands movie being just another bad videogame-to-movie adaptations with rant videos that are longer than the movie itself and also tend to go on unrelated political screeds.
It doesn’t explain, though, why more-traditional media like cable news and local TV news also follows this overly-negative clickbait model when you can’t comment under their “videos,” or how explicitly-positive and non-partisan websites like Good News Network or National Today stay in business. Those two more feel-good sites do have a ton of ad overlays for the ad revenue, like any other “free-to-browse” websites, but not necessarily any more than we get on more click-bait-y doom-and-gloom sites.
If you want to open a thread in General Forums about good movies out right now, I would both welcome and encourage it. Speaking from a personal, non-moderator standpoint, the conflict thread is a blight on this site and I would love for it to be buried by a happy positive discussion of good media
Meanwhile, I find the doom and gloom on this thread to be unfitting of a beautiful Friday morning, so I’m going to interject with something much more happy- tonight is the farmer’s market and I’m going to, as I do every week, get a bag full of the best (homemade) soft pretzels I’ve ever had in my life on any continent. It’s the highlight of my week, I’m already filled with joy just anticipating it
This is the other side of that coin…getting involved in a thread and wishing people would please stop replying! I want to stop and get back to my life, but then the classic meme interferes…
Yes people need common sense like this if they really want to communicate in a web platform like this…
I haven’t actually gotten involved with the Israel/Palestine thread because frankly I haven’t been closely following the news on that subject and have no idea what is even going on. Either way, I’d only be parroting what my news sources choose to reveal to me and the general public unless I’m actually in the war zone and directly affected in any way, so I’d be responsible for spreading misinformation.
I have made the mistake of briefly browsing through the thread while I was logged out of my BA account (because let’s be honest, you would be morbidly curious too if you visited a forum with the purpose on learning a bit more about Blender and Blender-like technology, only to find people talking about real-world issues here), and it certainly seems like those same limitations I mentioned in the first paragraph haven’t stopped people from offering their own two cents on sensitive topics completely unrelated to 3D art.
Eh, such a good topic to have some fun and not respond to first post for a day or two
