I've got a question regarding blender for linux..2.49b and 2.56a

when I go to blender 2.49b download page and scroll to the download section for linux, it says that it requires the following: Requires glibc 2.3.6, includes FFmpeg
Suits most recent Linux distributions.

but when I go to blender 2.56a download page and scroll to the download section for linux it only says:

Suits most recent Linux distributions.

does that mean that I don’t required to have glibc 2.3.6, includes FFmpeg that is required for blender 2.49b?

2.56a:

I do not know the definitive answer, but I would not assume that the requirements of one are any less stringent than those of the other. Blender’s documentation is community contributed, and it’s entirely possible that the (two?) author(s?) did not use the same wording.

Try it and see. Let us know.

I’m on windows right now… the new computer I’m building will be using linux OS but till then I can’t really test anything…this question is only based on curiousity.

Don’t bother, you’ll have glibc “inside” anyway, it’s mandatory, a Linux foundation!
Bye

ahh… thank you.
