Does this sphere have a Blender effect applied to its surface? I was thinking of using an image of the milky way, but it is not exactly how this was created. I’m thinking this is an effect. I’m not really sure. Any ideas?

To me it looks like sphere with specularity set to Ward, Marble texture and three different color pointlights besides of some kind of image based World environment light. Add a bit of DOF on top.
